Emergency & Critical Care

Blood Pressure Monitoring at Animal Emergency and Critical Care Huntsville

Animal Emergency & Critical Care is available nights, weekends, and holidays.  We provide overnight hospitalization for critical patients and access to emergency care when your regular veterinarians are closed.  We are here to handle injuries and illnesses that may occur when your regular veterinarian is unavailable. Patients are referred back to the regular veterinarian during normal business hours and for follow-up care. Our staff consists of four full-time doctors, one part-time doctor, seven licensed veterinary technicians, several veterinary assistants and several veterinary technician students. Our staff members are trained and experienced in administering CPR and triaging patients. Our staff receives in hospital continuing education monthly and they attend an annual conference to receive continuing education for licensing renewal. Our equipment/facilities include:

  • Intensive care unit with oxygen and temperature control
  • Surgical suite with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, anesthesia machines and a ventilator
  • Digital radiography-radiographs can be placed on a disk and/or e-mailed to your veterinarian
  • Complete in–house chemistry, complete blood count, blood gas, urinalysis and coagulation analysis
  • Limited equipment for exotic and pocket pets

Our emergency department includes an intensive care unit (ICU) continuously monitored by emergency veterinarians and veterinary technicians. The ICU routinely performs electrocardiography, manometry (blood pressure), and pulse oximetry (blood oxygen saturation). Diagnostic information is quickly available with our in-house laboratory, and digital radiology equipment. Our ICU is also equipped with a highly visible isolation area.
